DEPARTMENT: Rediscovery
JOB SUMMARY: This role will work in a specialized field where the individual needs to know the Tulalip culture and language to uphold the Tulalip Tribes teachings and values. The Specialist will assist in teaching cultural rediscovery activities such as: basketry, cooking healthy native food, native plants, and herb gardens. Coordinate with tribal members and staff about the appropriate time to harvest, process, and prepare materials for storage and use during Rediscovery classes. Prepare and cook native food, seasonings, and tea for Rediscovery and HCC functions. Assist with the protection and preservation of our cultural traditions for tribal members and their families. Provide cultural support when requested for our Tulalip youth, their families and other tribal members. Work as a team with Rediscovery staff to develop culturally relevant classes, activities, and work in the garden. Help with the coordination of Canoe Journey practices, scheduling transport of Canoe Journey participants, planning and preparation for any future Canoe Journeys hosted by Tulalip Tribes. Prepare for any landings that occur at Tulalip on annual Canoe Journeys under the direction of leadership. Help facilitate daily canoe circle meetings during canoe gatherings as needed. Will also assist with smokehouse activities.
COMPENSATION: $25.31hr.
MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Associates Degree in Native Studies or related field. * Relevant experience may substitute for the degree requirement on a year-for-year basis
MINIMUM RELATED EXPERIENCE
- Two (2) years of experience teaching diverse cultures, while incorporating Tulalip traditions and values.
- Two (2) years of experience in gathering, cleaning and processing of cultural material such as, but not limited to: cedar bark, cattail, seafood, native plants, deer, and elk.
- One (1) year of experience with gardening native plants and herbs.
- One (1) year of experience preparing and cooking native food and tea.
- One (1) year of computer experience utilizing Microsoft Office programs.
- One (1) year of experience coordinating cultural activities.
REQUIRED LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS/PREREQUISITES
- Must be an enrolled member of Tulalip Tribes.
- WA State Driver License. (Personal Auto Insurance Required)
- Must adhere to the Motor Vehicle Regulation. (Abstract Required)
- CPR/First Aid certificate.
- Food Handlers permit. Will allow sixty (60) days to obtain.
- Passport or enhanced driver license for international travel. Will allow three (3) months to obtain.
- Must pass an Agility exam to determine if physically capable of performing the job
- Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a pre-employment background check.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: This is a regular Full-Time position.
