JOB SUMMARY: January – May: Assists in the implementation of an ongoing salmon population-monitoring project in the Snohomish River basin. Collect data on the juvenile Chinook and Coho salmon outmigration patterns and timing from the Skykomish and Snoqualmie rivers through the operation of two rotary screw traps. The data collected will be used to improve management of salmon resources and their habitats, and better understand the biological processes of juvenile salmonids in the Snohomish River Basin. Assistance of installation, operation, and maintenance of trap equipment, reporting results and supervision of project staff.



May-December: Responsible for recording and sampling Tulalip salmon fisheries catch in Areas 8A, 8D, 10. verification of accuracy of salmon fish tickets and salmon fisheries data in all fishing areas, conducting biological sampling (scales, otoliths, and other tissues) of salmon and other finfish, and from other sampling programs (including brood-stocking for hatchery fish production), according to prescribed procedures, and preparation of samples for their analysis in the Tulalip Stock Assessment Laboratory. Enter in catch and monitoring related data and querying fishery and monitoring databases (Ticketed, TOCAS, NRFSS) according to prescribed procedures. Perform statistical and fisheries management modeling analysis related to salmon populations (pre-season forecasting, in-season assessment of run-sizes, and escapement).



 



 



COMPENSATION:  $23.25hr.



 



 





MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION




  • Bachelor Degree in Fisheries, Ecology, Environmental Science, or related field.





 



 



MINIMUM RELATED EXPERIENCE




  • Two (2) years of experience performing advanced statistical data analysis using R or Python.

  • Two (2) years of experience working in a biological or fisheries field.

  • Two (2) years of smolt fish trapping or comparable experience.

  • Experience identifying species of juvenile salmonids in various stages.

  • Experience operating boats and outboard motors.

  • Experience working on rotary screw trap projects.

  • Experience collecting salmonid population data preferred.



 



 



REQUIRED LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS/PREREQUISITES




  • WA State Driver License. (Personal Auto Insurance)

  • Must adhere to the Motor Vehicle Regulations. (Abstract Required)

  • Must complete an Agility exam to determine if physically capable of performing the job.

  • Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a pre-employment background check.



 



TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  This is a regular Full-Time position.
